Dorchester Gravel Pits
Wet woodland & willow carrGravel pit & lakeRiver corridor
This group of gravel pits (Allen, Orchid, Queenford, Drayton and Whittles) is closely linked to the nearby Thames, creating a diverse mixture of wetland features. Winter brings Goosander, Goldeneye and large numbers of dabbling ducks, while shallower zones can hold a variety of waders on passage. Willow carr and scrub attract warblers in summer, and the river corridor provides additional opportunities for Kingfisher and Grey Heron.
Paths around the area provide broad viewing options, making it suitable for extended multi-habitat walks.
