Cassington Gravel Pits
ScrubReedbedGravel pit & lake
Cassington is a dynamic complex of former workings and restored basins. The pits support strong winter duck numbers, including Shoveler, Teal and Wigeon, while spring and autumn see Little Ringed Plover, Sand Martin and occasional Garganey. The mosaic of scrub, reed and rough grassland supports warblers and finches, offering a rich environment for year-round recording.
Seasonally fluctuating water levels mean that exposed mud appears at different times of year, resulting in variable but exciting wader passage.
