Bernwood is a large, historic woodland that supports a classic suite of woodland birdlife. Broad rides and coppiced areas attract mixed tit flocks, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, and three species of woodpecker. In summer, the network of sunlit rides draws in warblers, while the woodland edges can hold Spotted Flycatcher and a variety of butterfly species that in turn attract aerial feeders.
Autumn birding can be particularly atmospheric, with thrush flocks moving through and roving finch groups feeding in seed-rich clearings.
